Those of us who have already gone through our childhood and are still trying to figure out life would definitely appreciate these poems. This is the story of a woman coming to realize her power and abilities, despite what has happened. It is a heavy book for one so brief and filled with poems, but it’s incredible.

Yes, especially if you’re in your 20s or 30s. This is a book of poetry that follows our author through multiple hurdles in quite early stages of her life, dealing with boys, relationships, and death. I know how hard it is to let go of the anger, the frustration, and the hopelessness that comes with life, so this really resonated with me. I loved how she took her revenge on those who had wronged her by learning to love herself and defining her own self-worth. That feeling of “you are not alone” is important for people who are still trying to heal. Because she uses such relatable language, I felt a sense of relief knowing that someone else knew exactly how I felt. Still, there’s a lot of comfort in Lovelace’s words. It’s extremely uncomfortable to relive your worst days, and Lovelace forces you to dig up all those demons and nightmares you thought you buried. I struggled to explain how I felt during my own hardships, and to me, it was like Lovelace just…gets it. I’ll be picking up Lovelace’s second book soon, and reading that as well.I almost felt myself getting angry at Lovelace for bringing up all the old feelings I had over similar events happening in my life, but I realized that this is the first time I’ve read a story where someone put my feelings into words so accurately. I really enjoyed reading The Princess Saves Herself in This One, and I think most of you will too. I think you need to have an open mind, and an ability to read subject matter that isn’t always kind there is a trigger warning list before this book begins, and I highly recommend you read that before diving right in. I don’t think you need to like poetry to fall in love with this book. Reading about women overcoming obstacles is always fantastic, but reading this, a book about a real woman who truly had to fight her demons to become herself, was inspiring beyond belief.

I picked up The Princess Saves Herself in This One by Amanda Lovelace not knowing what exactly was in store, but I’m glad I checked it out. But sometimes, I need a little dose of nonfiction a moment to live in someone else’s story. It’s my favorite genre, and is usually easiest for me to read, because escaping into books can be truly wonderful.
